Some 14 years ago, I was given a Genesis Croix de Fer 2009, or rather bits of a Genesis Croix de Fer 2009. The story of my (re)build project is here. However, that bike no longer exists, as it was broken up and recycled a few years ago, for reasons I won't go into here. Then in March of 2024 I came across a size L Genesis Croix De Fer Ti Frameset on sale at a very reasonable price, so I bought it. This is (or will be) the bike this page is about.
One curious thing I have found with this frameset is that the fork that comes with it, is not the Genesis CGR1 Fork 12mm that I would have expected it to come with. This fork is at least 193g heavier (264g if you include the thru-axle) than the CGR1, and it also lacks the internal dynamo cable routing.
Before I go further, a short divergence into the background of the Genesis Croix de Fer brand. The Genesis Croix de Fer started out as a steel cyclo-cross bike, "Croix de Fer" being French for "Iron Cross" the name was a pun. However, over the years it has morphed into a gravel bike to suit the changing fashions of the bicycle industry. Long the way, the materials that Genesis uses to make its Croix de Fer bikes also changed, with a variety of steel alloys being used, but this frame is made from 3AL-2.5V double butted titanium. This titanium alloy contains 3% aluminium and 2.5% vanadium, making it lighter and stronger than steel. My intention is to build gravel/light touring bike, which can also play on the rough stuff when needed.
The picture above is the way it would looked is what the Standard off the shelf CdF looks like, the bike I intend to built will be a wee bit different, see below. The frame comes with multiple luggage mounting points, 12mm thru-axles, headset, seat and collar included. The weights given, are for the components I have actually weighed (my scales are accurate to ± 1g) unless shown as to be confirmed (tbc), in which case they as given by the manufacture or retailer.
